Visit of the Croatian Embassy

On the nineteenth of November, the diplomatic committee had the honour of being welcomed at the embassy of the Republic of Croatia, which covers the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. We were warmly welcomed by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, His Excellency Josip PARO, and by First Secretary Iris LJUBIČIĆ.

We discussed current events such as the Ukrainian war, the upcoming elections in Croatia, the European Union, and the ties between Belgium and Croatia. S.E. PARO started his career in a post-conflict Croatia, where he explained to us the importance of maintaining, constructing, or reconstructing good diplomatic ties in the aftermath of a conflict. During our discussion, the ambassador underlined the importance of public diplomacy to share Croatian culture. The embassy organizes many events to promote Croatian culture, not only in Brussels but throughout Belgium. We talked about the personal background of His Excellency, a background that is atypical and truly inspiring.

We had the opportunity to talk about the future of diplomacy and its importance in a fast-changing world. It is hard to say what diplomacy will look like in the future. Policies, social, and cultural changes will shape the future of diplomacy. The importance of diplomacy lies in the long-term vision it has on international relations, a vision that is often difficult to reproduce in politics.

This visit was a great opportunity for us to learn about Croatian diplomacy and the importance of diplomacy around the world.
